  • Hectic school and no sleep

Almost managed an all-nighter.  Had to take a one hour nap, but the good news is that I finished my entomology term paper.  It's not the best work, it's on Strepsiptera--a relatively obscure insect (unless you like insects and parasitic ones at that).  Used 12 references and skipped some developmental issues, but managed to hit the word count and the deadline, so if I get a B, great.  I've pulled A's on the mid-terms for that class (so far), and just the final is left.

Bio-sci is looking up.  1st mid-term was awful, I barely managed the average.  Two stupid mistakes on my part knocked 12 points off.  2nd was better.  A 92 on that one.  Just the final for this one as well, but he likes tricky questions, and this one is cumulative...so it's anyone's guess.

Herpatology is...not going well.  Again, managed the average on the first lab practical, but reptiles are going to be harder.  Turtles, fine.  Snakes...relatively alright.  Lizards...just shoot me now.  The actual class is going better than lab, a solid 90 on the mid-term, the final should be about the same.  BUT--this term paper is longer, needs more references, orginal conclusions  (not that I seem to be able to think of any), and I haven't started it yet.  It's due in two weeks.  So...yuck.  Right after the lab practical, so I should panic about that now...so I can panic about the test a couple of days beforehand.

Thom is getting ready for moving...sort of.  I think the actual packing process is a bit intimidating.  He'll be out in about a month, dropping the kids off for the nonce while he finishes things up.  His ex is already out here, so that part works well.  I'm not really ready for him to move in yet, I've got to shift things around and clean up.  But I've got a couple of weeks from when I'm out of school and when he'll be coming out here to get ready.

Summer looks like it will be fun, no school just work and kids.  Plus, I've got tickets to go see Green Day, and I'm taking Thom and my son.  Should be a blast.

Right, so off to clean a little before starting dinner.  Might post some of the lab pictures later so that folks can see what I'm up against in the lizard area.

@rebootie - Yeah.  There's two orders of lizards, the Iguanidae and Scleroglossa.  The latter has 8 families in it, with 13 California species that I must remember to genus and species.  Iguanidae has but 3 families, but Iguaninae (sub-family) has 23 that I have to get genus/species for.  Squamates, have two orders as well with the blind snakes having three familes and one to remember, but Alethinophidia has 9 families, with Viperidae having 6 species of rattlesnakes in California alone, and Colubridae having 21 different species that are all morphologically different.  Testudines (turtles and crocodiles) are relatively easy.  I mean, some of the spelling of the names really get to me, and spelling counts.  And whoever named some of these critters needs to be paddled.  It makes no sense.  Hypsiglena torquata...had three dark splotches on its head and a speckled body.  Yeah.  Trying to relate that to something so that I can remember.  Not happening tonight.  But again, I just need to pass the test, not get a perfect score.  Pass.  *Fingers crossed*
